Correlation Between Spiritual Well-being of Nurses and Spiritual Nursing Care
¿Àº¹ÀÚ/Oh, Pok Ja
Abstract
This descriptive survey was designed to test the correlation between spiritual well-being of nurses and spiritual nursing care and to provide baseline data for spiritual nursing care. The subjects were 111 nurses from major hospitals in Seoul. Paloutzion & Ellison¢¥s (1982) spiritual well-being scale and Taylor, Amenta & Highfield¢¥s (1995) Oncology Nurse Spiritual Perspectives Survey scale were used in this study to collect data.
The results & conclusions are as follows:
1. The score on the spiritual well-being scale ranged from 41 to 119 with a mean of 88.44 (SD: 15.54).
2. The score on the spiritual care scale ranged from 17 to 43 with a mean of 6.55 (SD: 5.78).
3. In the relationship between socio-demographic factors and spiritual well-being, there were
significant differences in religion, frequency of religious service attendance, importance of
religion and level of faith.
4. The relationship between the socio-demographic factors and spiritual care showed significant differences in age, role and level of faith.
5. There were significant relationships between the spiritual well-being of nurses and their spiritual nursing care (r=.218, P<.05)
One of the findings in this study indicates that Spiritual Nursing Care is closely related to age and an existential aspect of spiritual well-being rather than a religious aspect of spiritual well-being.
